What is the NDIS?
The NDIS is a publicly funded programme that helps people with disabilities live independently and achieve their goals. It replaces older systems that didn’t always meet people’s needs, ensuring that everyone receives the right support to take part in community life. At its heart, the NDIS provides the right assistance so individuals can lead ordinary and fulfilling lives.
Who is Eligible for the NDIS?
Age: You must be under 65 years old when applying.
Residency: You need to be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
Disability Requirement: You must have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to do daily activities.
How Does the NDIS Work?
1. Applying to the NDIS
The first step is to apply. If you qualify, you’ll be invited to a planning meeting to discuss your needs, goals, and hopes.
2. Planning Your Support
During this meeting, you can talk about what kind of help would make your life easier and more independent. Your plan will be built around your personal situation and priorities.
3. Funding and Reviews
The NDIS then provides funding through a personalised plan that outlines the support you’ll receive. Each year, your plan is reviewed to ensure it continues to suit your evolving needs.
4. Choosing Your Services
You can choose service providers that suit you best—whether for therapy, personal care, or other essential supports that improve your quality of life. To help you manage and coordinate these supports, learn more about our Plan Management and Support Coordination services.
Benefits of the NDIS
- Personalised Support:Each plan is designed around your goals and needs.
- Choice & Control: You decide who provides your support and how it’s delivered.
- Long-Term Stability: The NDIS offers ongoing, reliable help.
- Community & Opportunity:With the right support, people can connect, work, volunteer, and live life their way.
